MESH MASHUP: CONCEPT GENERATION

Remix Culture is a term use in society which encourage derivative works. In other words, by using two existent objects, artist can manipulate them to give a contrast between the two, creating a new product.

Remix Culture plays with the idea of surrealist objects, therefore, my idea behind this piece is my love for Saxophone, which I related to the high-pitched sound of Elephants. Also, I added the musical notes with sneakers to give the work a surrealist look.

As you can see, music is something I'm passionate about. So, I wanted to portray the idea of how music has become massed produced to a point where people have forgotten what is important about music. For me, music is about the instruments, the excellent poetry and the meaning behind the lyrics. So, I decided to play with the idea of a train to symbolize the mass production; a piano which creates the reels; and some instruments like the saxophone, the base which are being to my taste, overrated the past years in the music industry.

For this piece, I wanted to bring the idea of how birds get affected by pollution. Therefore, using some parts of an airplane, I created a giant version of a bird; I placed some wings to contrast nature and aircraft industry.

After all the serious ideas, I wanted to add some fun to one of them. I used a Volkswagen car to create this piece and replaced the wheels with chocolate chip cookies. The idea behind it is a memory I have from my childhood singing songs and eating cookies on the road.

I consider myself a biker; therefore, I could not do this project without creating a bicycle. Biking has become part of most cultures around the world. My idea for this project was to create a surrealist race bike, using horns to render the handle and a human hand to create the seat. The fun part is that we use bikes to exercise instead of running or walking, so to make fun of this, I have used a hand as a seat, which also adds a surrealist vibe to the piece.

This microphone was inspired by a TV show I watched when I was a kid, "31 minutes". It's a puppetry tv show, where the characters represent the idea of working on a Tv News studio. So I thought it was a good idea for remix culture to create a microphone that contrasts the view of a journalist and the innocence of puppetry.

I wanted to portray the high demand for travel and tourism in Chile in this piece. Therefore, I used an iconic sculpture, the Moai head, a symbolic artwork from Easter Island, one of the most visited places in Chile. In addition, Chile is known for its mountain ranges called Cordillera de Los Andes. Therefore, I wanted to combine and create a fun scene of people climbing the mountain without equipment representing the travel madness of people after the Covid Pandemia.

Most of us can relate to having a drink after a busy day. However, lately, I have been learning more about myself and the importance of being aware of your own body. I created a martini glass with olives in the form of a skull to represent the idea of how drinking can be poison if used without control. Lately, I've learnt that we are energy and that alcohol lowers our frequency, giving us only momentary pleasure.

I wanted to represent the simplicity of beauty in nature and animals in this artwork. So I combined a deer and some plants to recreate its antlers.

One of my favourite movies is V of Vendetta. In this movie, the main character, a man wearing a mask, takes revenge for what has been done to him in the past and gives them an escarlata rose. I chose to portray the idea of life and death of the movie by combining a hand, a rose, and a skeleton hand.
